Luke flopped under a shady palm tree, grinning up at the canopy of leaves. Here, finally, was somewhere he'd be understood. Somewhere he wouldn't be treated like a freak. Although... He shifted uncertainly, lying completely in the shadow of the tree trunk. What if the other people had far more powerful... abilities, the man had called them? He'd never really thought about that.

It was quite a dilemma, the situation Sylar found himself in. Surrounded by power ripe for the taking, but trapped, contained. He could take down every single one of them, but where would that leave him? Eventually they'd either catch on to him or he'd be the last one standing. And what fun was it being the most special if there was noone there to appreciate it? A dilemma indeed.
Having explored several other areas of the isolated island and found no simple way to escape, Sylar had settled in to wait. All there was to do, it seemed. But the man was restless, and at least it was an island with warm beaches and not some frozen wasteland in the arctic.
It was with that in mind that he made his way to one of those beaches, hoping to find it deserted. He didn't at first see the figure reclining in the shade, his attention focused more inwardly as he tried to figure out the puzzle of how he could make the situation he now found himself in work to his advantage. Maybe one or two, here and there, wouldn't raise such an alarm... there were plenty of accidents that could be had in the woods and near the cliffs. Sylar knitted his brows, glancing out to sea but only seeing the horizon.

Luke sat up, frowning. He had seen a few of the others since arriving, but nothing to show what kind of powers the other people had. He perched on a rock, swinging his legs underneath him and focusing his attention on the surface of a small rock pool until it bubbled. Now he noticed the tall man who stood only a few metres away.
He hesitated, wondering whether to go over. He never got on well with the kids at school, but they'd been weak and stupid. Maybe he should make an effort to be friendly with the people he'd be spending most of his time around. It wasn't like he could leave, after all.

The shifting of the figure a little ways away from him caught Sylar's attention, and he cast his glance in that direction before turning his head to look. But it was just a boy. Even in the shade he could see that physically he wasn't much of a threat. If he was here, though, it meant that maybe there was something more to worry about.
Tilting his head just slightly, he regarded the other in silence, wondering if it would be better to present himself in a friendly manor and gain trust or simply try to ignore them.

"Hi, I'm Luke." he said, trying to sound confident and intimidating.
He curiously scanned the man in front of him. He didn't look very friendly, but maybe he was just the strong, silent type. Luke was already beginning to doubt his decision in coming over here.

It was obvious that the younger one was trying to come off as confident, and that amused Sylar. This kid had no idea who or what he was. It was a situation that might be of use to him if he played it the right way.
With a slow smirk, Sylar regarded the other for a moment before replying. "Hello, Luke. My name is Gabriel." He said, giving the less intimidating name. He had killed before being brought here, and he wasn't sure if the name Sylar would be recognized. Sometimes it was better to play it safe, and he was fairly certain that no one had ever heard of Gabriel Gray.

"Hey." Gabriel was a name he wouldn't have attributed to this guy. Gabriel reminded him of willowy blondes, not slightly frightening looking guys. Well, he hadn't been dismissed, yet. He was determined to keep at it, show Gabriel what an interesting mature guy he could be.
He regarded Gabriel a moment longer before blurting "So what's your thing?"

The blunt request to simply admit 'his thing' made Sylar chuckle in a softly sinister way, eyes rolling up and away briefly before settling on the boy again. Luke was clearly still very young. Knowing that most 'specials' were only granted one gift, he raced through his list of powers and settled on one. "Telekinesis. Tell me yours." he said, more interested in knowing what the kid was capable of.
He watched him, noting the slight roundness of his face and the way he seemed to be attempting to appear more mature. It only made him seem younger, though. Sylar figured he was probably still under the age of twenty. His gaze was intent as he let it travel completely down and then back up, settling again on Luke's face in a considering and calculating stare.

He managed to hold himself still and upright, determined not to show how uncomfortable he felt under scrutiny. He couldn't show a weakness, couldn't act pathetic.
"I can melt things. Boil things." he shared cockily, jerking his head to the side.
Telekinesis... he knew what that meant. Moving things without touching them. Okay, that was pretty impressive.

Melt and boil things... Briefly Sylar thought of Zane, and a slight twitch of a smirk touched his lips. Not exactly the same, but interesting. "Sounds destructive." he prompted, wanting to get a feel for the kids personality. "Show me." he said, voice verging on demanding. He wondered if he would be obeyed, almost anticipated it. There was something to be said about power like that.

He grinned happily, eager to show off. He wanted to impress. He focused on where water was collected in a dip of rock, channelling his power to make it bubble and spit water. It still didn't look very impressive.
"Got anything plastic?"

Sylar liked the way the kid jumped right to it, not even seeming to notice the way he had simply commanded him to do it. He watched the boy lift his hand and point his palm to the water, within moments causing it to boil. Sylar wondered if it worked the same way on a persons guts.
"Ah. No. Not on me." he said when asked if he had anything plastic. But the question made him curious. Also a bit wary of being seen talking with the younger one, Sylar, turned a little, schooling his face into an interested expression. "Maybe back at my place, though?" he added, tipping his head back towards the small settlement of houses. He had settled into one for himself. He smiled, trying to make it more kind and inviting instead of wolfish.

"Oh! Okay." he nodded with a small grin, cocking his head to the side to look up at the older man.
He must have made some kind of impact. He had an invitation to the man's home. That almost constituted as acceptance. His endeavours may actually have come to something... He wanted this man to like him, almost irrational in his eagerness.
"Will you show me what you can do too?" he requested, half polite and half demanding.

The request to be shown what he could do and the tone which Luke requested it grated just slightly against Sylar's nerves, but he let it pass. The smile turned up a little, even as his eyes narrowed just a fraction. "Sure. Come on."
Without much more than that, the older one turned back the way he had come, not exactly waiting to see if the kid followed. He was taller, and his legs were longer, and he set a brisk pace which he knew would make the younger one have to walk a bit more quickly to keep up with.

He trotted after the man, the silence making him feel slightly nervous. But Gabriel seemed like the type who'd find inane chatter irritating, and he wanted to seem mature rather than a silly little kid.
He bit back his questions, storing them up for later as he followed after the tall man.
