Sylar had the impression that Luke might just decide to plant his butt there on the couch and never leave. He thought about what he might do in that situation. There wasn't anyone there to make him come home or to tell them that it was a little weird to be sitting on an older mans couch.
There also wasn't anyone to tell Sylar not to do anything at all he wanted. So he sat there and stared, looking more closely at the boys face and arms. It was then that he noticed pale pink spots in some places, little scars most likely. Sitting up, he silently reached over without warning, grabbing the others wrist and tugging his arm down to inspect.

Luke's eyes jerked open from where they'd just slid shut.
"What're you... oh. Cigarette burns." he supplied helpfully when he saw what the man was looking at.
He both hated and loved those scars. Hated them for showing just how little he'd meant to the people who should care the most, but also liking how they showed he was a survivor. He wasn't all talk, and he had the marks to prove it.

Things were starting to click, the abuse he had suspected was now obvious, in part, right there in front of him. No wonder the kid didn't flinch from little electric shocks. Tracing his finger across a line of the little smooth spots, Sylar felt a renewed hatred for people. Maybe it was hypocritical, seeing as he took great pleasure in sawing people's heads open.
"I hope you plan to kill who did this to you." he said, frowning and looking to the other.

He blinked in surprise. It wasn't like the idea hadn't occurred to him in the past, but he'd never seriously thought he could do anything about it.
"I can't. Don't know where he is. Anyway, there's no chance of that on this island."
He looked at Gabriel looking at him, and wondered whether the man had been through something similar to react like this.

He had never been through any real physical abuse, unless getting picked on by bullies in school counted. There was, though, a certain sense of injustice he could understand. But he wasn't going to go into his own parental issues with this kid. "People aren't that hard to find...even when they're hiding. We'll get out of this place eventually, and then maybe you can give him a few burns of your own." he said, lessening his grip so that Luke could take his arm back.

Luke paused, rubbing the inside of his elbow. "That'd be.... good. Yeah. Would you help me, you know, when we get out of here?" Maybe that was taking things a bit too far. They'd only just met, after all.

"I don't think you need my help." Sylar said, frowning. As unique as this situation was while trapped there, he didn't look for it to be a permanent thing. He didn't need some hyper active kid as a sidekick. He didn't need Luke tagging along making his life complicated.
This place, though, was more of a special circumstance. Here he didn't mind the younger one so much. It was kind of like having a stray dog tagging along.

"But... yeah. Alright."
He could always ask again nearer the time. They were stuck here indefinitely. For now, he'd just have to be careful not to make the other man too angry. Which was difficult when he always seemed to say the wrong thing and get himself in trouble. He knew Gabriel wasn't going to budge from his position of the dominant one in their... friendship, whatever. And he was happy to keep it that way to a certain extent. He could deal with being the side kick, just so long as Gabriel didn't get bored with him.

Sylar gave a small nod, glad that Luke wasn't going to argue that one with him. He relaxed back into the cushions, seemingly comfortable and as though he didn't have a care in the world. His mind was ticking all the time, however, about how to escape, how he would punish his captors, where he would go and what he would do when he was free.
Lacing his fingers together, he rested his hands on his stomach, closing his eyes. Maybe Luke would let himself out if he thought that he was sleeping.

"You'll get a bad neck if you go to sleep like that." Luke remarked after a few moments, to break the silence more than anything.
He hoped Gabriel didn't really intend on sleeping. He didn't feel like going back alone.

"You're not my mother." Sylar growled. He narrowly opened his eyes and looked at Luke, mildly irritated. Turning his head more fully to him, he sighed in exasperation. "What do you want, anyway? Why are you sitting there, why are you still here?" he said in frustration. "And don't tell me it's because I'm good company." he said darkly, pushing himself up. It was almost like the kid was tormenting him with his presence.

"I don't know... I like you, that's all. I don't usually like people. It's better than being on my own." He pushed himself backwards further into the cushions as though challenging the other man to remove him. He didn't want to go.

"Are you kidding? Do you hear yourself?" Sylar asked, even though he was smirking a little. No one had told him they liked him in a while. "Luke, you should find other friends. There are plenty of people on this island you could make friends with that arent going to cut your head open."

"Fine, maybe I should." he retorted with a scowl "I'm sure I can find somebody more powerful with better, cooler powers than you."
That was maybe a bit childish. Okay, a lot childish. And he wasn't even sure if Gabriel would react. Maybe the man really would be glad to see the back of him, maybe Luke had been wrong in his judgements thus far.

"Hm. You do that. And then I'll take that power, too." Sylar said, a wicked smile spreading across his lips. Perhaps there was a use to the kid after all. "How would you like that? You lead me to the best, and in return I won't kill you." he offered, half teasing.
